Who...
WHO?
How was he supposed to answer who?
For Jyou knew, knew with all of his heart, and aching soul, that two paths lie before him. Two paths, either as difficult as the other... yet only happiness awaited him, in one. Yet with that one...?
He was torn between the truth, and fabricating a lie..the only lie he knew, knew to hold some shard of truth. Yet only because she had used him to empty her heart, to tell HIM the truth...
What right had she, at all?
How could he tell her that? It wasn't fair at all...
But it was Mimi he spoke of. The girl who didn't notice a lot of things...
Jyou sighed, deeply, his heart heavy. He turned, glittering gaze upon Koushiro... And was struck speachless.
How could he speak these words, when he didn't see them to be the truth? Why cold he not just SAY the truth..why not? WHY?
"Jyou...what is it? Who.. who is it?" Koushiro's words were soft, measured. Jyou swallowed...
~~~~~
Who. It all came back to that single word... just one syllable, that was all. And Jyou could tell Koushiro how he really, truly felt. Yet the fear of rejection has stopped many before...and so Jyou sat, frozen, unable to speak.
All because of his fear...
"You know you can tell me.." Soft, Koushiro's voice was still soft. "I..if you promised not to tell.. I can't make you, can I? But... I won't tell. I..promise."
That was rather sweet..and it pulled at Jyou's heart, harder and harder. Almost as if he was about to explode...
"Really... Koushiro... You shouldn't say that..."
Silence fell.. Koushiro was slow to speak. But his words were fervent...
~~~~~
"I... I don't think I've ever been loved. By..someone other than..my parents..." He winced. "You..know what I mean.." Silence. Jyou nodded, not wanting to look, as Koushiro spoke. Yet unable to pull his gaze away.
"I... I don't know how I'm supposed to react to this. It's..not what I'm used to. Understand...?"
He sounded nervous, very nervous, yet in that nervousness, the emotion of it all, Jyou heard something shining..hope. That someone could love me, for me.. As if Koushiro was not used to such simple emotion...
~~~~~
Me. It's me.. I love you, Koushiro.
In thought, it was so simple. So very very simple...
But to actually speak the words. To alleviate the boys fear...
That was too much. Even if it was all he wanted to do.
All he wished, all he craved...
~~~~~
"All I want..."
~~~~~
Words that broke Jyou's resolve. No matter what the end. And so, he began to speak, words tumbling forth...
"Mimi..."
The name rang clear, and Koushiro looked up, an obvious, confused look upon his face.
"She told me... she has a big crush on you..." He chuckled then, an odd sound coming from his throat. With a simple movement, he removed his glasses, and wiped a hand, hard against his vision.. and then set to cleaning his lenses, nervously.
"I must be tired..."
Koushiro was unable to speak. Mimi...?
That made no sense at all. Mimi.. Mimi just liked herself, and made blunt comments. She couldn't like anyone, not more than a friend... She couldn't.
And then confusion swallowed him, hole, as Jyou spoke.
"But that's not who loves you..."
"What?" It was all Koushiro could make out. The only sound he could force through parched lips...
It was all to much. The world was spinning... And Jyou had said. Jyou had said.. loved... But... who does.. he mean...?
The look in Koushiro's eyes must have been evident, for Jyou nodded, slipping his glasses back into place. And spoke, simply... "Me."
Nothing else need be said, for it was in that instance that he came to realize. How? Maybe it was the look in Jyou's eyes..a look he'd never seen before. Maybe because he had hidden away in his computer so much..and had never been able to see it before.
